I hear this expression from moms (and grannies, and aunties) at least once during almost every custom order I fill. Then there are the emails after the doll has arrived with ‘but, I secretly want to just keep it for me – I don’t know if I can give it to her/him’. These emails always […]

Lucy and Tika, the night before Lucy heads off on her journey. I posted a bit yesterday about Heather and Project Somos. Today is the first installment of Lucy ( a Bamboletta that I made for their journey – she is my ambassador!) joining Heather and Greg on their journey to Guatemala. I will […]

Lucy’s travel ensemble is adorable… love the cords peeking out!
Have a safe trip and I hope you find the perfect site for your amazing village.
I had never heard of this project before but I love what they had to say on their website. Sounds like a great idea. I’ll have to look into it some more. Happy trails to Lucy!
Tika is a corgi-shephard cross and is two years old. She is THE best, smartest dog ever and we’re heartbroken that she isn’t coming with us to Guatemala this trip. Her future role will be Village Puppy as she is awesome with kids. Does lots of tricks too!
Thanks for the well wishes. So excited to have you all following along!
Looks like Lucy is on a journey of super importance, what a wonderful project. I am really looking forward to reading more….X

This is one of my most favorite dolls. She is a custom doll for a customer in Toronto – who wanted a doll to reflect her rock and roll-ness. The requests for a black sweater and skull and crossbones made me smile – this is a doll I’d make for my daughter. Then I’d […]
She is so cool! I’d totally hang out with her… but I agree about the fairy dress for special occasions!
The personality is why I love our dolls. Even though I was on your Christmas custom list…I knew that Gracon was our boy the second I saw him. I could not have described him better to you. *He* was the baby for my Bear.
I am excited to see this years dolls…and to either order mine via custom or see her in your shop and just know she’s mine! 🙂
I can relate to being overwhelmed in the band-aid aisle. Too much choice can be confusing!
And that really is a rockin’ doll. 🙂
The doll with skull reminds me of my friend. In fact, I just made her a little canvas bag and on her bag was a leopard print accent and I embroidered a skull and crossbones as well! I completely agree about what you said…”my best work is when I know what people want but I am left with ‘creative license” This bag I made for my friend was exactly that….
I sent this doll out yesterday and was a little sad –
Thanks everyone for the compliments 🙂 Hope you all have a good weekend!
Christina I think you are right she rocks!
I agree with the making things more simplified, I have found myself in the same position so many times lately having moved from a small country town, where choices were limited and far easier, to the ‘big smoke’ and constantly being overwhelmed with too many options.
It’s just about making things more organic, simply put, you have beautiful taste in all that you do, so your options come from the heart, it’s going to be an easy choice from now on.
Thanks Cate. One of my favorite things about being pregnant was the clothing. Seriously. I liked that there were only a few shops to buy from. I ended up with clothing that I’d never buy normally, but looked great.SOmetimes there are just too many choices 🙂
This is the COOLEST doll ever…… Your work is so wonderful and inspiring, i love your blog too!! X
She is so rockin. I just love the hair though. Great work as always. Keeps the creative juices flowin when someone requests something and you pull it off without a hitch. Thats amazing!
She’s so cool! I bet the girl receiving her will be thrilled. I think it’s a good idea to offer limited choices. The people who want something special (like this rockchick!) done for them will approach you directly anyway.
Christine
I love it! It gives me ideas for a future companion for my little guys.
That is wicked hair! I promise to give you tonnes of creative license when I order my first doll.
Oh Wow! I love her! I can’t wait to see the doll you make for Julia. I am so excited. Hee! Hee! It’s like Christmas. You know, I think it really IS for me, but I promise – I’ll give it to her. 🙂
Ah, she’d definetely be a doll I’d choose for me too 🙂 Mind you, it seems I’d want most of the dolls you make 😉
My great friend Heather is on her way to Guatemala today. She is there to lay the foundations for her Project Somos, an eco-village for orphaned and abandoned children. Heather has been working so hard on this project and has had amazing success fundraising and raising awareness around this project. I have so much admiration […]
wow! That is awesome. I’d love to see a picture of Lucy…will you be chronicling her travels here by chance?
Hi Monica 🙂 I’ll be following Lucy on her journey and writting about it on the blog. I look forward to seeing where she ends up!
Lucy is on her way! We started our journey yesterday. It starts with a two week drive south; visiting family and friends along the way. On February 3rd we fly to Guatemala out of Dallas, Texas. Our goals for this trip are to find a piece of land to purchase so that we can start building the children’s village, register our society, register to receive children, etc. etc. The list is LONG. We’ll be taking photos of Lucy every step of the way and posting them on Facebook and on our blog. And of course sending them back to Bamboletta headquarters! lots of love, Heather and Lucy
Thanks for the update Heather 🙂 I’ll be doing a post soon with the updated pics-this is so fun!
It would be great fun if you made a childrens book telling of Lucys journey. Get it published, so that children could read about her adventures. Also being aware of the problems in the world and the solution that could help make a difference. Above all the sale of this book should benifit
the project…Just send me an autographed copy for this great idea.
Wow! I looked at Project Somos site. They look fantastic!
I’ve done some volunteer work in Rwanda and Uganda, and love hearing about exciting projects…
Thanks for sharing!
Safe travels to Lucy and Heather. Will be following the adventure! xo
Sounds awesome!!! It can only bring amazing things to you and those women!!
people like Heather make me want to do more with my life!
cannot wait for more adventures from Lucida! It’s a wonderful thing you and Heather are doing. I hope the news follows up to show the progress of Project Somos. It’s such an inspiring story.

YaY!! huge congrats winners! 🙂
Lol, yeah, I hear you on that last one! It’s almost always the dads who object to the price, isn’t it?
Laughing here…. We frequently drool over the dolls in my house, dreaming of the someday to come, and my youngest, sweet Ella will say “will you buy me one Mom?” and I say “sure, will you buy ME one?” and she says “OK, pick one out Mom, which one do you want?”…. I couldn’t agree more… what mother wouldn’t want one of these precious dolls! They are so gorgeous!
He he he! I am one of those mama’s that loves her Bamboletta as much as her babies. Big kisses to you sweet Christina.
When I was under the weather a while back, Roo gave me her Bamboletta to sleep with and I must admit she hasn’t found her way back to the bunk bed yet! Sad but true. Roo comes upstairs and fixes her hair and loves on her but she says mommy needs the extra loving and “you can pretend you’re hugging me all night because she has my hair color and she looks like me.” Isn’t that sweet? Jasper points to her and goes “girl” which I also love.
I do the shopping and it’s true about the dad’s, but I must say when he sees the love that goes into the making and the attention that my daughter gives. Then you know its worth every penny and more, to have that warm snuggly feeling in your heart.
I really enjoy knitting things for my children’s dolls, so in a way they are as much for me as for them, they always get a goodnight kiss too ;0)
I think most of the things I buy or make for my daughters are the reflection of what I would have loved as a little girl….and bamboletta would definitely make that list of things! One day, I would really love to get one custom made for ME and maybe I might share it with my 3 daughters, maybe.
i have a very special doll made by a good friend that i have in my workshop – it’s one of my favorite things 🙂 thanks for the comments friends!
um, i slept with my son’s doll last night…ahem. of course, if he would have wanted to sleep with it i would have been elated! but i just couldn’t have her sleep alone. she is the closest thing i have to a daughter at this point-lol! she is a doll that i made for him-but who are we really kidding? it was a process and product that is equally enjoyed by both of us.
[…] is a little series that I’m writing about the dolls. This post, ‘but I really think its for me’, was the first post I did in the series. Stay tuned for ‘how to do boys with dolls – from my […]
