Monthly Archives: March 2009

I had a total Amanda Soule kind of day. We had family organic spelt pancakes, did a couple of crafts and then we went for a nature walk looking for Fairy homes and to teach the kids about tree fungi. Apparently learning about tree fungi is really important (according to John). I’m trying to catch […]

It’s very fascinating to hear about your journey and the expansion of “Bamboletta Dolls”!

It makes us (and the dolls we already own as well as the ones we will own someday) feel interconnected!

It’s what makes buying handmade so “rich”! You don’t hear about the interconnectedness of mass produced products and the journey a family takes as the mass produced products develop!

Best wishes

cheryl - March 15, 2009 - 7:15 am

Wow! I can hardly wait, My son commented on that doll as he loves that one. I’m so glad to know that you hug the dolls as thats the first thing I do when I recieve one. Its the squishability factor in them I think.

erin - March 15, 2009 - 8:29 am

oh yay – i really want to make a doll like that! i always admired the ones at miss polly’s. i have an old sweater all ready to go! xx

Erica Hildebrand - March 15, 2009 - 9:52 am

Oh that baby is too cute! How exciting, now if only I could sew! I dream all the time…

Tree fun-guy ((as we call it) is a must for children, it develops literacy, clear thinking, and morals *wink wink*

Julie - March 15, 2009 - 10:17 am

You make beautiful dolls!

Ann Bachhuber - March 15, 2009 - 7:16 pm

Pink Sky - March 16, 2009 - 10:28 am

Well, I for one thing it’s interesting and love reading about how the little ones find their way to other homes. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing!

Christine - March 20, 2009 - 4:51 pm

Yikes! Don’t start yet – I’m not ready – I have to dig out a sweater to become a beautiful being! (hee hee) Can’t wait to “Sew-along” with you…

A while back I asked for everyone’s opinion on fabric ( I just mailed the winner her fabric winnings yesterday.. embarrasingly late!) With everyone’s opinions in mind I ended up choosing 5 different fabrics. Here are 2 of them all sewn up into new clothing. These 2 gals are going up on Etsy tomorrow. I […]

andrea - March 12, 2009 - 8:46 pm

oh you went with the owls! i LOVE those freaky little owls. and we think YOU are the best!

Dayna - March 13, 2009 - 5:45 am

I thought the owls a little strange when I saw the fabric swatches you showed us. Now that I see it made into something – big difference. They aren’t so creepy now. It’s actually a really sweet fabric. πŸ™‚

And as for creeping kids out… my husband and I took our 2 year old, Abbie, to a movie awhile back. “Tales of Desperaux” – with the little mouse. Part way through the movie he has to go into the sewers where the rats live, and there are all kinds of skulls etc down there (I think it was supposed to be in Paris, and those were the catacombs? I can’t remember). Anyway, another father had to leave IMMEDIATELY with his 2 girls, who appeared to be 4 and 6, because they were just terrified. Screaming, tears, the whole bit. He looked absolutely mortified, and I really felt bad for the girls.

But my Abbie’s reaction? She screamed “YAY! MOMMA, PIRATES! ARRRRRRRRRRRR!”

Different strokes, right? Some people will be like my Abbie, and just love creepy lookin’ owls. LOL.

Great job on the new dolls, Christina and Co. πŸ™‚ You totally rock.

Tanya - March 13, 2009 - 2:14 pm

I’m so happy you went w/the owls. It is perfect!

admin - March 13, 2009 - 8:49 pm

Thanks ladies! I really like the owls too – the scale works well with the dolls and it’s one of those easy to work with patterns that has things upside down and right side up. Okay -off to pack boxes!!

Erica Hildebrand - March 14, 2009 - 8:42 am

Those owl’s are very adorable..maybe a bit freaky but I think that just makes them like it more.

cheryl - March 14, 2009 - 5:20 pm

LOVE the hedgehogs, I want a dress like that!

Monique - March 15, 2009 - 1:32 am

I love reading about Lucita’s adventures and Project Somos!

erin - March 9, 2009 - 9:38 am

i spent time in antigua 15 years ago (yikes – makes me feel old to write that!). those pics bring back so many memories of being there – it’s such an amazing place. i walked through that arch every day on my way to spanish class!
glad to hear lucita and friends are doing well!

Amber - March 9, 2009 - 11:36 am

It’s so exciting that there are people in Guatemala who are interested in Lucy. I really think that big things might happen with Bamboletta and Project Somos. πŸ™‚

CanCan (Mom Most Traveled) - March 9, 2009 - 8:02 pm

Wow, Lucy is making all kinds of friends. I can’t wait to see her sweater! πŸ™‚

Con - March 9, 2009 - 9:39 pm

I LOVE it! Yay Lucita and Heather

Erica Hildebrand - March 10, 2009 - 6:29 am

I love living vicariously through Lucita! How exciting!

cheryl - March 10, 2009 - 7:13 am

Im glad to see she is having a great time and making all sorts of friends…but can the sweater beat Nana’s

Heather - March 10, 2009 - 8:37 am

The sweater is supposed to be ready Saturday. But this is land of β€œmaΓ±ana” so we’ll see….If it is ready, we’ll be sure to take a photo to include on the next blog. I’m doubting it will even come close to Nana’s sweaters.
p.s. for any Vancouverites-Project Somos is having an Information Event tomorrow evening, 7pm at Ethical Bean Cafe, we’ll be coming in “live” via Skype (from Guatemala). Lucita will say “hola” to all the Bamboletta Fans!

Shawn - March 10, 2009 - 9:44 am

Reading about Project Somos and the adventures of Lucita is uplifting. It is uplifting and at the same time it challenges me to action. I too look forward to seeing the sweater.

Oh my, my daughter would ADORE to have her! She received one of your dolls for her birthday, but is jealous of MY doll, which appears to be of African descent. =) She keeps telling me she wants an African American doll, too. =)

Anyway, thanks for the contest and for all that you do!

Kari - March 5, 2009 - 10:27 am

My 2.5 year old is practicing being a big sister with a whale and a baby penguin πŸ™‚ I’m sure she would love the adorable Jasmyn to ‘Rockabye’ and ‘cuddles’ instead! Plus it might not be quite so traumatic in June when a real baby comes out and not an animal from the aquarium! lol.

Thanks for the contest!
Kari and Kaya

Hi, my name Ella. I am 4 years old and Bamboletta doll that I got for Christmas is named Molly Mae. I like changing her clothes and playing with her. I like sleeping with her at night except sometimes her hair tickles my nose. I like reading books with her and taking pictures with her. I wish she was alive. Ella

Your dolls are beautiful and well made. Every little girl should have one. Thanks

As the dappled sun filtered through the verdant canopy, Jasmyn reflected on the events comprising her eventful day. First, there had been morning latte’s with Chiara down on Fourth Avenue. A quick stop at the sushi bar to meet Kumi had led to a sunshine stroll along Spanish banks. Ahhhh, the sweet life of a Bamboletta: really! Does it get any better than this?

norah - March 5, 2009 - 7:08 pm

I came across one of your dolls today and was captured by it’s beauty. The doll its self was a beautiful shade of chocolate brown which will also be the skin color of my baby to come. Hello Christina,

I know a little 3 y/o girl with eosinophilic gastroenteritis disorder and autism that would love to make Jasmyn apart of her daily therapy to learn social skills and how to use her imagination! Especially, b/c of recent medical test her doctor has recommended a complete removal of plastic containing items (food, toys, etc.) due to her PICA for plastic and high levels of estrogen. She had a dolly obsession and used to sleep with over 10 plastic dolls, until they ended up in the recycling bin.

Thank you for your consideration

My twin girls would love to fight over, I mean, love on Jasmyn! πŸ™‚ They would wear her around in a sling and give her lots of hugs and kisses. I just found your site and all your dolls are gorgeous.

Would love to win this doll for my kids! Your work is amazing and the best part is how each doll is made with such love! We entered your last giveaway and will keep trying and saving up until we can get one. Hi! Your dolls are beautiful and have a wonderful “energy” all their own. My (2.5 yo) son Emerson says about the contest doll “she is cute.” we’d love to meet her in person if we win!

tara - March 15, 2009 - 11:04 am

Yeah!! Jasmyn will find a home today! Such a precious little doll!

Joe - March 15, 2009 - 11:05 am

This is for my little doll.

Shannon - March 15, 2009 - 11:08 am

She is so sweet, it is a hope and dream that someday we will adopt overseas. And with only 1 girl out of eight children we often think of a little girl. And I have thought often the first thing I would do is have a little doll for her waiting. So here I enter to see if maybe by chance she will come home to us. Thanks again for all your hard work and kindness. The boys often say and talk about adopting our little dark skinned girl. Or as the little ones say in their innocent ways “buy”. Sounds so harsh put that way but from a child’s mouth is it pure love and joy and want to make things better. True Love.

What a beautiful doll! My daughter spotted the photo/link to your site (in the sidebar at SouleMama) and said, “Ooh, can I have that doll?” πŸ™‚

Angie Ares - March 15, 2009 - 12:38 pm

Found your blog through Leah Killian, wonderful designer and blogger, who gave the info about your site. I would love to win this for a very special lady who has battled breast cancer and resulting heart problems from the treatment for the cancer. Her “baby” just graduated from college and moved out and she seems a bit lonely. I think this would be the perfect companion for her and reminder of her daughter. Thanks for the opportunity.

I haven’t been over here for a while, but I plan to come more regularly. I don’t have children yet, but I hope to introduce them to bamboletta dolls when I do (and introduce their grandparents as well! You work embodies so much of what I believe about childhood and toys). I love your philosophy on dolls and toys – on an earlier post you mentioned that you don’t try to propel kids into adulthood but reflect childhood through your dolls – and the loving work you do with them. A mass-produced toy is just a plaything, but your dolls are a loving work, and one that extends its love, amazingly, to people who are hurting and healing, or financially suffering, or children growing up in a crazy time for childhood. I would love to be a toymaker someday – whether for my own children or as a business – and I’m working on gaining the skills I need. It means the world to me to see what you do with your dolls.

cheryl - March 2, 2009 - 12:07 pm

I love Lucy and the cow…they are much bigger up close arn’t they. I think we should be informed if you now own a boy or girl dog? Tell us?

Heather - March 3, 2009 - 8:04 pm

He’s a boy and really needs a name! (As does the stray dog we’ve fallen in love with in town!) Heather

nathalie - March 3, 2009 - 9:04 pm

Heather - March 6, 2009 - 8:35 pm

Tuli it is! We like that too! Thanks for coming up with a name for us!
love Lucita and Heather and Tuli!
