Hey Everyone! To celebrate the new year and to celebrate the year passed I’m having another doll giveaway. This time it’s Jasmyn that needs a new home. Jasmyn is made with all the good Bamboletta ‘stuff’ – wool, cotton and a mohair/alpaca mix for her hair. I’m feeling especially generous this time and am […]

Merry Xmas,
That Photo is beautiful, It looks like my yard too, we live just across the US border and we are wondering if it will ever stop snowing, my 6 year old loves it though. I’m really happy they are considering some exemptions on lead testing. Yay another doll giveaway!!! you’re awesome!! Have fun with your family.

Heather

Happy holidays! Thats good news to read about the possible exemptions to the new law!
What a stunning photo! Hope you had a Merry Christmas indeed 🙂
Hope you all had a great Christmas and are staying warm in all of that beautiful snow!!! Charlotte is totally in love with her new doll and I will send a picture your way soon. Thanks again for everything!!!
Merry Holiday!
Can’t wait for more listings, between me and my friends we have started a tradition of bambolleta dolls for birthday gifts for our babes. Looking forward to another doll giveaway.
Phew, I hope the legislation gets tweaked even more before February, but I am a bit relieved that my natural crafters I love will be protected!
I hope you had a wonderful holiday and are enjoying some much deserved rest and relaxation with your familia! The news about the CPSIA is uplifting! Happy Holidays!
What a beautiful picture. Happy Holidays! Who hoo another doll give away…fingers crossed….Yea…
I love the snow as long as we don’t have to drive in it. We had rain for our Christmas. Although here in Ohio we usually have wonderful white snow. Have a great new year.
I thought I may add that my daughter completely loves her new doll “Shara”. She has become great friends with “Meio” her other doll.
i just wanted to share photos my my sweet girl opening her birthday gift! we love abby!! i might have to get me another doll or else i will claim abby as my own!!! we took kennedy and abby to the park yesterday and we got some beautiful photos of them. i will share them soon!
http://kennedyandfriends.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/12/twas-the-night-before-christmas.html
The CPSIA news is good to hear and hopefully they can do more by February.Something is better than nothing though.
Oh yeah! another give away! I will keep my fingers and toes crossed as either of my girls would love a Bamboletta and yes so would there mom!
Happy Holidays.
Happy New Year to you too! I hope it’s healthy and prosperous. 🙂
Mmmmmm looks like heaven
The inspiration for this doll comes from a few places. First is from Little V, who wanted a doll that she could change the diaper on, looked like a newborn, was little and was heavy-ish. The other source was from Miss Polly- a teacher at my sons Waldorf School. Miss Polly noticed that quite a […]
I think I may need this- will you have it ready by February when my baby is due? I think my daughter will need her own baby 🙂
I love it! I am going to want a new baby in May for my daughter’s birthday. =)
It’s true. Autistic kids get comfort from things that are a heavy weight. That’s why they are often seen wearing heavy vests year round. I imagine the weight of the doll brings a feeling of safety. Interesting stuff!
O wow – extraordinary! I’ve always loved the idea of weighted dolls, although I have never tried one myself. I noticed my daughter too loves to carry around my bigger, heavier dolls more than the soft floppy one I made her for her first birthday.
So exciting to see your doll process! Keep us posted. 🙂 And you forgetting the nose made me laugh! Happens to me too when I’m really excited, LOL!
P.S. Thank you for your sweet comment on my weblog! Happy holidays to you and your family too! 🙂
Adorable!!! I’m surely going to want one!
what a great idea this doll… so cute too with her nappy… well done for your work… bises
pascaline
I am so happy to see this. 🙂 We love heavy around here….I think we’ll be needing one of these too….shall I admit that I was doll crazy as a child and I’m living vicariously through my children now? {blush}
Oh, and this baby will certainly need a woolie soaker too….rofl….send me some measurements when you have one perfected. 😉
Just let me know when to order! Willa will love one of these. She’s getting another cousin in August, the same month as her birthday! Perhaps one in pink or purple….
It’s so cool to see the creative process at work here. I love that kids are involved in the design process. 🙂
I absolutely love it!
Put my name on the wait list too, for real – this is EXACTLY what Ruby wants, though not yet able to articulate the design features and considerations. She works sooo hard at changing her baby doll – Vi is an excellent source of toddler wisdom. And you, a doll maker visionary. Love it.
My son has autism and this is such a wonderful idea. Currently my mom made him a rice filled “pillow” that he lugs around and puts on his lap when I need him to sit still for longer amounts of time. A doll would be much “funner” to lug around and to eat dinner with at the table. Thanks for this…
she’s so cute! love it…
We will be “needing” a couple of these methinks. Just adorable…I almost want one myself! 🙂
My child has heavy babies at his school, and the kids love them. I must admit yours is soo much cuter because it has a body. Theirs is a potato as you said. They also put lavender in them for a calming scent.
Yay! This is so exciting. I’ve already planned on “hiding” our little babies in Sillycon’s slings on Christmas morning for the children to discover! It will be a baby-wearing day! It’s kind of making me wish I had a real one of my own in a sling… How can this be happening?:-)
Melissa V, I hope you little guy gets to be a test subject. 🙂 Early research with the prototypes.
Very cute doll. I’m sure my little one will want one in a few years too.
I would so snatch one of those up already! You really are amazing!
So very precious. My second youngest would love it and so would my only girl out of eight. :O) There is always a baby in the house – so playing with babies is fun too. To be just like mom. You are so very creative.
Love them! We will certainly order one when they are for sale!
Wow, I’ve been wanting a weighted doll for a while now for my LO. Do you think you might put something like lavender or dried rosebuds in it to scent the doll too? I think it would be great if they were scented too.
XXX
It’s funny you mentioned the autism bit at the end. As I was looking at the pictures and reading the description I was thinking how perfect this would be for Asher, who is autistic. Looks like when these come out that I’ll have to hold off buying new dolls for Freya for a second to get her big brother a new one too. 🙂
How neat!
We have a sand filled “gekko” that was made in Thailand…I can’t stand it b/c it looks real (like a huge dead lizard), but my boys have always loved it. I never considered it might be the weight that they like about it…
cutie. how is it that you have time to come up with a whole new design in the midst of Christmas madness. you are amazing CHristina.
xo Happy Holiday.
I love this baby! Good ideas. I worked with autistic children for a little while, and they did use weighted vests and weighted packs (like those heat-able rice or flax packs), but looking back, I would have loved to have a weighted baby doll. They would have been comforted by the weight while potentially forming an attachment (or sorts) to something resembling a person – it could be so helpful. If I ever go back to that work, I will definitely revisit these fellows!
just want to say i think this is awesome; i work with kids for a living and think this would be a great thing to have in my office when kids come see me… beautiful thought process…
Love this design. Can’t wait to get one of these diaperable babes. My daughter loves to put her small cloth diaper on her bears.
Oh Christina, these are just perfect, and the the thought of maybe lavender in there is just the thing! I spoke to the older twins OT about this and she thinks it’s a wonderful idea, can’t wait ’til they’re available. You’re amazing!
Ou yummy. My Grama use to make us bean bags growing up. I really did love them. The feeling of the beans moving in my hands, the substance. I think I may have liked the smell too, whatever that was. One thing I think about when choosing the inside is what will happen when it gets wet, a little? will it get mushy, sticky.. or will it pretty much dry out and be cool. I wonder about mung beans. I am excited to see what emerges. My daughter loves the plastic?! baby dolls a school, she has some organic cotton, but what is missing is the ability to change clothes, and the very necessary diaper. One of these cuties will work.
this is a great idea-. i can’t wait until it’s up. i seriously plan on buying a doll (or two?) from you. just need to get my mind sorted out about the how and what.
I have a crazy question, how do you make the cute smiles on your dolls? I assume you use embroidery thread and needle? It looks like one long stitch, but that can’t be the case… would you be willing to share your secret? Do you sew them on before putting the skin over the head??? Thanks so much!!!

Thanks to everyone who bought dolls Friday on Etsy – that was a little nutty! They’ve all been sent home – should be there by week’s end =) I’m finally beginning to get into the holiday spirit. It usually comes to me right after I’ve sent off my last doll at the post office. It […]
Christina~We are kindred spirits…I think our children are going to have similar Christmas mornings. We received our Jalu animals and rainbow arch last week and they are simply delightful. And I just wrapped up our natural blocks….I’m so excited for this Christmas morning.
I seriously want to come up to visit you for the day…our four could play for hours together I think. 😉
Oh, I’m a huge fan of Jalu toys as well! I made a play mat for the kids and my husband made a barn. We are filling the barnyard and forest with Jalu’s beautiful creations!!
I know you won’t regret the Learning Tower purchase. Our 6 year old still uses it to have some autonomy in the kitchen (she can push it around to get it where she wants it) and our 2 year old loves it too. We also got tired of hovering over the kids as they balanced on chairs! Whenever we have other kids here they all climb on it and pretend it is a castle tower or whatever strikes their fancy.
Happy Holidays!
what a fantastic selections of toys … here in France, I also prefer toys french made if possible and in wood most of the time… china made isn t entering my house as much as possible!
have a lovely xmas with your family… I am off to london to celebrate it so will have a though for you there!
take care
pascaline
I think we are all just glad that you are around and creating amazing dolls for our children, do the thought that you want to thank all of us is humbling. We love Bamboletta!! =) That being said I’ll be excited to be one amongst hundreds to sign up for the drawing. Can’t wait to see the new style of baby!
I’m patiently waiting to give our daughter her Bamboletta for Christmas. She is safely wrapped and tucked away waiting for her spot under the tree. I bought the same blocks from ZooLooNaturals and LOVE them. I actually sat and “played” with them for some time before forcing myself to box them back up and wrap them for Christmas. They are super soft and such fun shapes and sizes. Definitely a creative block set.
YOU are awesome! xx
We got our doll yesterday – on a Sunday, I was shocked! I guess Canada Post pulls out all the stops for the holidays. It arrived just in time because we spontaneously decided to go to a Santa party and here was this beautiful doll already wrapped in cellophane. My 3 1/2 year old loved her even more than the Barbies the other kids got, which is very high praise for a girl her age. She won’t put her down. I just wanted to let you know how much our family appreciates the effort and detail you put in.
And also a big thank you for letting us know about other artisans. I have my eye on one of those sewing machines. I appreciate playthings that I can feel good about, knowing the ethic that I’m supporting with my purchase. 🙂
I hope you and Jasper love The Learning Tower! I work on the marketing for the parent company to The Learning Tower (Little Partners) and I came across your blog on a search. Thanks for the mention and have a great holiday!
Hi there! I’ve been haunting this site and dreaming of the day I can get my daughter one of your dolls. She’s 3 as well and loves babies. I’ll be interested if she and Little V have similiar ideas! I ordered two of Constance’s slings for my kids for x-mas and can’t wait until they open them! I just wanted to offer a word of caution regarding the learning tower, which we own. My daughter was very tiny and when she was able to crawl she actually tried crawling though one of the holes on the bottom of our learning tower, and she did! Her head went through and she got stuck on her belly, it wouldn’t fit through! Needless to say my husband was in shock that she could fit through. He was able to get her out eventually with some tugging and pushing….we put the tower in the basement until she was larger and walking. We still have it and love it, but it almost went on the curb….
thanks for the heads up Alicia – Jasper is a little monkey and if there is an area for him to fit into, he’ll find it! he’s about 17 months and pretty big so I think we are okay 🙂 i’m glad that you like it!
you’re welcome devin – i’ll report back on how we like it when we’ve used it a bit
i’m so glad that your daughter likes her doll Amber – and it trumped barbie – who could ask for more? 🙂
thanks ashley for the kind words 🙂
no erin – you rock!
happy hoidays pascaline 🙂
Roseanne-Thanks for writing about your LT purchase – I have a hunch it’ll be one of those things that I’ll wonder what I did without.
What a special Christmas for your little ones with a barn made by daddy! My dad made me a playhouse when I was little – I remember playing with it for HOURS.. and a playmat! I’d love to see some pictures Jennifer.
Monica – you want to be my internet BFF?
Those blocks, love them! We’ve been to the open house of daughter’s new school a few times now (also Waldorf) and I saw them there and loved them so. It feels so nice in your hands. The gnomes are also very cute!
Can’t wait to see what you’ve made next, besides all the hard work you already do you even have time for a new design. Superwoman you!
I have no clue what a learning tower is, I have to check your link.
Enjoy the snow! I wish we had some here.
Christine
You’ll love the learning tower. Not a day goes by that my daughter doesn’t do acrobatics on it. I LOVE your dolls and have a wonderful holiday.
Hello Christine! Have a great holiday time 🙂
Thanks Holly – I know I’m going to love it. Just today Jasper almost fell off the chair – again!
Christina, the Learning Tower is THE best kids’ furniture purchase I’ve ever made (I didn’t buy a lot since we were co-sleepers in a tiny apartment, but I’d rank it even above the Arm’s Reach bassinet thingy). I also talked my mother-in-law into getting Miriam some of the cooking tools from the Montessori catalog For Small Hands, and now she is an old hand at cooking. Makes up her own recipes! Also handy for art projects, doing dishes, washing hands, and generally being entertained while mama is busy doing other things in the kitchen. She’s almost 4 now and is nowhere near outgrowing it.
I clumsily sewed some clothes for our dollies for a Hanukkah present for Miriam; they’re definitely not as nice as the ones they came with BUT it was nice to have a chance to make something myself! Happy new year to you and your family!!
🙂 I just love that you put the links in when you find new toys, fabric, etc! I get to discover them too. heehee.
This is what I have planned for my Etsy update on Friday – this Friday December 12th. Right now I’m dressing and prepping them all – this is my favorite part of the process! I’m planning on uploading them at 4pm PST. They will be shipped out via Expresspost on Saturday morning to ensure that […]
Well, I can’t say that I have a huge amount of confidence in Stockwell Day (my mp)at the best of times , but I just wrote him a letter explaining my problems with the CPSC. I know that things don’t sound good, but I just can’t believe that you (and everyone else like you out there!) could be kept from selling your products. I think the enforcement of it would just be too much of a logistical nightmare. Fingers crossed that this gets ammended to be more appropriate!
What a sweet looking bunch! I can only imagine picking out the clothes and getting them ready… wow.
I hope enough people respond with indignation to get this legislation rewritten. What a ham-fisted approach to policy.
Oh… I love that little blonde on the bottom right. *sigh* Why is it my PayPal balance never gets transferred to my bank account? LOL.
You’re right… fear about one situation tends to hurt others. I think our marketplace is so universal that there’s enough artisans to make a louder noise about it! I can’t wait to see your dolls on etsy!
Oh gosh…does that little nekkie blond have a belly button? You have my address ready to go, right Christina! lol
And, thank you for your support on this big issue….it’s really quite scary and saddening. 🙁
are the smaller ones the 12″ dolls? 🙂
Unfortunately, the biggest hurdle to small businesses (that I can see) is you have to test every BATCH of toys you create. Which is fine for big businesses but I don’t make batches, I make one toy at a time… Which means a $4000 testing fee for 1 toy – there’s no way that’s even remotely feasible.. I can’t really do anything about it being as I’m in Australia too. 🙁

Ciao! I just discover your web site and your fabulous and colored bambolette! I think that as soon as I could I will ask you

Wow, I didn’t even know about this! Sounds horrible for everybody who creates beautiful things (like the Bamboletta’s) and wants to sell it.
The dolls in the picture are beautiful!!
Christine
It’s ok that Meranda went to a little girl for Christmas. My little one has Rose waiting for her when she wants to play with her doll. Mommy just wanted a reason to keep Rose for herself. 🙂
I am so excited! I bought Caroline for my 2 year old Maddie. At first I had my eye on Riley because a friend just had boy/girl twins and the girl is named Riley(I am always looking for signs from nature) but Caroline’s face just spoke to me. I loved her outfit too. This our first Bamoletta but I have a feeling it won’t be our last. I couldn’t believe how fast the dolls were selling.
Congratulations to you Christina. I can’t wait for our little Caroline to come home. Thank you for your beautiful creations.

Dear Jasmyn,
I know a sweet girl named Kali who lives in the East Van Canyon and who frolicks in her garden with her denim and her cowgirl boots. Her hair is brown and flowing and her eyes are ocean blue with a cedar wood freckle in her right eye. She comes to play at our house often where she spends many hours doting on one of your cousins who came to live with us one year ago. If you lived with her, she would love you all her days.
I just know she would love to live with us in Hollywood! Your dolls are so beautiful!
She’s beautiful! My little girl’s birthday is in February, and she would be a perfect gift. 🙂

I was kinda sad to give Polly to my niece. Is it wrong to have a child just so you can find reasons to buy another bamboletta doll? Just kidding however when I adopt a child, I will make sure that they experience the same joy my niece had when she opened her package which revealed Polly for the first time.

My wife wants a Bambolleta doll for our daughter……hers hoping to win this beauty..thanks
Hello! I am glad to say that if we were chosen to adopt Jasmyn…she wouldn’t have far to go. We live in Victoria – and my daughter assures me (well, in her two-year-old way) that our dog is a good dog. So, Jasmyn would have a dog. And a “sister” (aka my daughter) who would love her. After being hit in the head by an old (my old) cabbage patch (who was apparently just giving me a kiss says my daughter) I would love to have Jasmyn join our house. Her head looks soft — she’d likely give very soft kisses. I sit at home most days and type away at my great Canadian short story collection for a masters course so Jasmyn would have me at her beck and call. Tea is served often. Coffee even more. And chocolate is readily available, in child portions of course. What else can I add?
Oh. We are friendly and lovable just like Jasmyn.
We hope to have Jasmyn join our family.
My little redhead would absolutely adore that doll. Fingers crossed and all that :).

Lovely work as always and Happy New Year…may it bring many more dolls to beautiful children!

3 Cheers for Bamboletta Dolls! Hip, Hip, Hip, Hooray!
Just thought I’d try my luck here. If I happen to win please redraw for Jasmyn. She’s super lovely but not calling to me like some of your other dolls have.
I so love what you ‘do’. Yes a true artisan. Keep the faith & the love. x
Love, love, love your dolls! We’d love to have Jasmyn join our family!
I don’t envy you the task of choosing who gets this lovely child. I already have the dreaded skull and crossbones kid on the way for my daughter but…i’d love to send Jasmyn to my best friend Erin who lives a long way from me and is just about to get married and hopefully get pregnant right about the same time. She has long red hair and Jasmyn reminds me of her. I think it might be just the right drop of magic needed to help the stars align for a pregnancy. But if you don’t choose me, I think the woman who is turning 70 years old sounded very deserving! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!! Thanks for a chance at such a beautiful doll!!!
I love her! She’s beautiful!
Looking at her photo makes my inner child sing, and my heart smile. She reminds me of myself as a young one…I get to experience childhood all over again with my young daughter Klaye. I cherish being a Momma.
Your service to humanity is such a tremendous blessing and deeper in it’s purpose and meaning than the surface may show. To young and old, boy and girl alike…but especially to all the future Momma’s in training. Educating and giving diverse experiences to female children and youth is of the utmost importance…dare I say…even more important than for males. For womyn are the first educators of every child born and humanities future.
much love and thanks
she will bring great joy AND learning to whomever is blessed to receive her~
