I had a lovely day puttering outside – it was warm and sunny and you could just smell spring in the air. Dang I love the Spring. Of course we have grand plans of growing more food, adding in some more chickens .. but we do this every year at this time of year and other things always seem to eat up our weekends. I think this year will be easier – the boys are older and my weekends don’t feel quite so frantic. I used to stuff all the bodies, dye all the yarns – cut up hair, etc, etc to get the dolls ready for Monday pickup – but now I do some faces at night and dye up the yarns .. still busy but not insane. It’s nice.
So – anyhow – I’ve got a couple of new things I’m ‘announcing’. The first being Birth Certificates! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and finally got around to doing so. When you get a doll (from March 4th on) you will also recieve a Birth Certificate with the dolls name and ‘birthdate’ (which is the upload date) and .. most importantly – a serial number. Each doll will have a unique number on this certificate that will confirm it as an authentic Bamboletta and serves as ‘proof of purchase’ from the original owner. So – if a rehome or eBay or whatever situation comes up you can ask the seller for the serial number – this way it can be traced back to a particular upload. There has been a rash of ‘fake’ Bamboletta’s out there and this is one way we can help stop this. Also in the future I am going to implement a Birthday card service and these numbers will come in handy. If anyone knows of software that can track this sort of thing I’d love to hear from you .. maybe something that dentists or chiropractors use – you know, to keep track and print off weekly cards? I’d love something that people could fill out online .. the easier the better ๐
I also have labels coming … these have taken FOREVER to get in – seriously – it’s ridiculous! I don’t want to order more because I have so many more coming .. ahh the dilema. Soon – each doll will be tagged as well.
The other thing is auctions. I get asked to put up dolls for auction all the time .. its a way for those customers that are able to to be able to get a doll based on the highest bid. I felt uneasy about this – I hate unfairness .. it’s something that I am so fundamentally against. Maybe it’s because I was the middle class kid in the Catholic school full of very wealthy kids – it’s like it’s ingrained in me that no one should have an advantage or something.ย I think I’ve figured out a good solution – I will have a few dolls up per month on auction with proceeds to benefit charities. Like this weekend I put up a doll to benefit the Somos Transition house for battered women – how awesome will it be to write them a cheque that will really help them out. Ifย there are people out there willing to spend that money on eBay getting a doll we may as well make sure they are getting a real Bamboletta AND the money will do good. I’m going to put it out there that it will only be a few dolls a month and will not really affect the number of dolls in the RTG upload.
Okay .. enough yakking – I have a bunch of dyeing to do yet .. pink dreds are calling!
