I get this asked of me a LOT – I think some people may think it is just me – I’m not sure. Well it’s not just me – if this were the case I’d be able to make about 4 dolls a week with all the sewing and sewing that goes into making a doll. There are 6 of us in the shop (not including me) and we do all the prep work – so we get all the doll bodies sewn and stuffed, we combine and cut the doll hair and then we get the dollies back, I put on the faces – then the hair cutting, dressing, blushing, pictures – upload then packing takes place. It’s a lot of work. The doll assembly is done by my lovely sewing mamas. They receive their dolls on Mondays in sort of a package of bits , hair and arms and a body, and they sew the dolls together. I LOVE getting dolls back on Mondays – I don’t think I’ll ever tire from going over the dolls and seeing who sewed who. Each sewing mama has such a signature – they’ve been trained to sew ‘the same’ but each puts their own little spin on it – how can they not? That is the beauty of handmade!
So, I can’t take the credit and I’m not some sort of sewing super woman – there are about 23 of us all together sewing, stuffing, hugging and knitting the dolls to life. These ladies love making dolls and love that they’ve had a little part in your child’s life. When they come in on Mondays we chat about a particular cute doll pic on Facebook they saw or if they saw the doll they made in some child’s arms and about how their week went – chit chat really. We have got such a neat thing going on – these ladies infuse love into what they do.
So, it’s not just me and THEY are the reason why we can make this many a week. I’m not wanting to get (much) bigger (aside from more Little Buddies) – the clothing and dolls we make each week feels just about right. A lot but very managable – I feel like if I were to go bigger then something would be lost if that makes sense? Anyhow – the reason why we are able work and make dollies is because of all you ladies out there. Thank you SO much for your amazing support! Never in a million years did I think this would happen!
