Hips…

img_1834.jpg

I’ve posted my first doll on my Etsy shop. Her name is Penny. I’ll try to post some more ‘gals’ on there this weekend. I’m having some issues with my digital camera. Me and electronics just don’t do well together. Our other phone (the last one standing) was used last night as a chew toy for Jasper and now it is extremly difficult to hear on it.

I finished this doll yesterday for a custom order for little Seri. This is the first time that I’ve made dimples, I love them.. now all my dolls will have dimples! No they won’t, but I’ll definitely be doing them again soon.

I know this is old news, but did you hear about Prince’s hip replacement surgery? I *love* Prince so much. Such a little man in his high heels and ruffled shirts. Prince is my happy place. It seems ‘Purple Rain’ is on every time I need a little pick me up and feeling kind of blue (or maybe it’s purple?) After travelling in India for about 5 weeks, alone, I had just had enough. I loved India, don’t get me wrong – it’s magical and amazing- but I’d had enough at that point. I had a 24 hour train ride where my companion was trying to convince me to marry him all whilst recovering from a bout of something nasty in my tummy. Anyhow, I got to my hotel, ordered up some french fries (with ketchup please, not tamarind sauce or chili sauce) a Coca Cola (total tourist) and settled in to watch some TV. What was on? ‘Purple Rain’ . And for that I will always hold Prince close to my heart and wish him the best on his hip replacement surgery.

After we talked for the first time this evening I was watching tv and guess what was on?

PURPLE RAIN!!!

I kid you not.

new things..

No pictures today as I’ve misplaced my camera. And I broke my cordless phone – dropped it. All members of my immediate familia are laughing right now, I go through about 6 phones a year. Got to make the trip out to Radio Shack this weekend and pick up a new one.

I took a trip into Duncan today and stopped in at Trendy Tots at 151 Craig Street. They have been renovating for the past few months and I finally saw the finished result and was absolutely blown away! The place looks fantastic, I am so impressed. When I first moved here almost a year ago I was quite dismayed at my shopping choices. I mean, I’m not a big shopper by any stretch but I enjoy looking around and seeing whats hip and happening (’cause I’m that type of gal, ha! I am so kidding!) . Anyhow, I stepped into Trendy Tots and it was like a ray of hope had descended upon me. It’s a kid store, yes, but it is the coolest, friendliest kid store..EVER.. Maybe it’s because I have this whole wardrobe of clothing that I’m about 15 baby pounds too heavy for, but I love buying kids clothes. I say it’s market research for the dolls- inspirational shopping. Lol, I’ll use any excuse I can get.

So, there are other exciting things happening for Bamboletta. I’m in the process of re-setting up an Etsy shop. I have one right now – Bamboletta Dolls- but haven’t put anything up for sale in a long time. I will still be selling my dolls through Natural Pod as well, I love that my customers have access to such amazing toys and things for their family. I hope to have a few things up for sale by weeks end this of course is all dependent on Jasper and the cutting of tooth number three.

best husband..ever..

I love my hubby. Look at this fantastic pic of him and Ben ice skating today, so cute. I’m not quite sure where all this mushy love has come from but I thought I’d just write it down. He works so hard for us and still has time at night to make doll heads. Now that’s love. We had such a nice day today skating and hanging out with some great friends.

On the doll front, I’ve been working on a few fairies recently. It’s so great to get back into them. I’ll be doing a series of Spring Fairies, maybe 5 of them all together. I want to do a set of 5 fairies each season. So this Spring it will be Daffodile, Crocus, Tulip, Snowdrop and Hellebore. I’m working on Tulip right now, she has some amazing pink hair. I really should be doing Hellebore or Snowdrop right now..they are the first ones out, I just couldn’t wait to use this cool pink hair.

I’m also doing a custom order (well, several custom orders) this week that is really interesting. I’ve never done dimples before and was asked to do some on this particular doll. I tested it out on a ‘spare head’ I have lying around and am in LOVE with the results..so cute! This is one of the reasons I love custom work, you get so many new ideas.

I just finished up 5 new dolls for Natural Pod and they should be up by the end of the week.

I’ve set out targets for us to reach every month in order to have enough stock ready for Christmas and my markets. It’s been so nice to have the dolls all together to look at, all ready for new homes. So far, so good with getting enough dolls made. I’ve got about 5 dolls this week in the works for Natural Pod and then the following week is to work on some custom orders.

I’ve just ordered my spring Converse. I’ve had a tradition of  doing this for the last 5 years. I know that they are owned by Nike now, but I still love them and there is nothing quite like a fresh pair of Converse. I’ve ordered the ‘Lil’ RED Riding Hood’ shoes. I’m stealing Amanda Soule (Soulemama)’s shoe idea..it’s where I first saw them, they are so cute I just couldn’t resist! New Shoes!!

We had another lovely day, sunshine and warm weather.  Just a putter-y kind of day outside and then finished off with dinner with some lovely friends. Perfect.

Goodness – they are lovely!! You make me want to drop whatever I’m doing and start working on my dolls. Bad, bad, very bad, beacause I’m supposed to be working, you know. *grins* Anyway. Just wanted to let you know that you’re a big inspiration to me!

I love your dolls. I used to work as a designer/dollmaker for a company called Little Souls, Inc. Your babies remind me of them. I used to love making the one of a kind little treasures. Good luck, great product.

siblings

I’ve been working on a few of my custom orders this week. The sweetest being a brother and sister doll for some little ones up in Duncan. I’ll post a pic up soon, they are super cute.. I can’t wait for them to see them. I’ve also got 3 other dolls that I’m working on for a family, I love these sibling dolls! It’s cool because I’ve been doing this for a few years now (online) that I’m now getting requests to make the younger sibling’s first doll. Ahh, my dollies are in good homes, it makes me feel good to know. It’s funny how much that really means to me – that they go to a good home. I still think about this market I did about 4 years ago where the strangest man just came up to my stall, looked around and then pointed to a doll and bought it. It was just so odd and felt ,well, weird to me. I mean I get plenty of men buying my dolls for their children and some buy them for their wives, but this guy was really quite kooky. I’m sure he bought it for a child who loves it and the doll is  warm and safe and dry, but I still can’t help thinking about whatever happened to that doll. I am far to attached to them!

We spent a fantastic day in the sunshine with some good friends down at the beach today. It was nice to finally get outside and enjoy some of this sunshine. We just went through another bout of illness. Goodness, a breastfeeding baby with a cough and cold is NOT fun! I’m finally in this Monday to see a dental surgeon about this crazy horizontally growing wisdom tooth of mine. I’m getting an xray and consult this appointment and we’ll see about when I go in for the big pull out. Yuck. I hate all things teeth and dentist so this is really freaking me out. I suppose you all don’t need to know this information, but, well, it’s a blog 🙂

Meike - February 25, 2008 - 2:42 am

I hope your baby gets well soon – I’ve been there. It’s just so frustrating to see them trying to latch on, only to have them stop again because they can’t breathe through their nose & and drink at the same time. 🙁 And I hope your visit to the dentist will be okay!
