Mixing it all together

img_2869.jpg

I recently answered questions for an Etsy article being written about balancing motherhood and business. It was interesting thinking and writing about how my days flow, how the kids are involved with what I do and how my business is effected by them (in good ways!). This pic is of one of my favorite things in the workshop- B’s wooden sewing machine. Often he’ll come down to visit me and do some ‘work’ helping mama make dolls. He tells me that we have to get the dolls to the children, it’s a very important job (!). If he doesn’t sew on the machine, he likes to organize my pin cushions, wind bobbins for me and the ultimate job which is to wind up my skeins of wool into balls. Little J likes to sit on the ground and head right for electrical outlets and try to pull the sewing machine down on his head, he considers this to be fun times. My business has been so influenced by the boys, from decisions I make, to how I treat people, how I create the dolls and the materials I use- my kids are always to whom I try to be an example to and they are where I derive so much inspiration from.

Speaking of all things inspiring. I am making an angel doll tight now and hope to have her finished for tomorrow’s Etsy update. Karen, Julie’s mentor and good friend, gave me a message that I am to create an angel doll without wings for children, to help them in some way shape or form. Well, inspiration comes from all places so I was inspired to make this, it’s kind of a ‘typical’ angel depiction but it’s the first thing that came to mind. I’m such a tease.. I have no photo to show you- but I promise tomorrow!

BTW Tomorrow I will update my shop at 3pm instead of my usual noon.

My daughter just woke from her nap while I was reading your blog and said, “Mama, is that my sewing machine?” She has one just like it. It has been great for the moments when she wants to sew with me and I can’t have her on my lap!
You’ve given a beautiful glimpse into the heart of your work. What a wonderful model you are for your children.

i love the wooden sewing machine, totally something little r. needs – right now she clambers up onto my lap and i tell her ‘you can only touch my hands, nothing else’ and she puts her little hands on mine and helps guide the fabric. it is really, really sweet and is profoundly sharing and teaching and learning, and really not productive. ๐Ÿ™‚

when does the etsy piece come out? congrats!

It’s cute isn’t it Tressa? I got so much done when it was just B and me, it’s pretty neat to integrate work and the little one. Then you have a second..it all changes then ๐Ÿ™‚
Not sure when the Etsy piece comes out.. I’ll keep everyone posted.
