I heart Denise!

This picture has nothing to do with this post. I just love the little girls face. Thanks Dayna!

I hope all of you are doing well. Thanks for all the lovely comments – I wish you each the best of luck. May the Random Number Generator choose your number!

First off I have to say how amazing the new ‘TV on the Radio‘ album is. I’ve been listening to ‘Golden Age‘ again and again.. I think its a very fitting new year kind of song . This band is a cross between Peter Gabriel and Prince , well to me anyhow. Speaking of Prince – John’s sport highlights was on the other day and I glimpsed up just as they showed a picture of Prince at a hockey game. It was such an odd picture – he just looked so wee and handsome in his fancy clothes and sunglasses. I love Prince.

Rough sketch . One of the fantastic illustrations by Denise!

I haven’t had much as far childcare lately (except a visit from Nonna for a few days – fantastic!) so I’ve been trying to plug away at getting my new website organized. I’m working with this illustrator who I think is my new BFF. Denise is fantastic and has been super great to work with. I just got my preliminary sketches tonight and they look fabulous! So, in the new shop there will be sections to custom order all the dolls, every type that I make. Then there will be a ‘Ready for Adoption’ page, a ‘clothing’ page and a ‘gift certificate’ page. This is all very exciting for me, it’s my next step.

Another step I’m looking at is to offer a choice of 6 fabrics that will change 2 times per year. I’m at a point where I should be buying fabrics wholesale (lol, if even to keep the ladies at Fabricland from running into the backroom when I walk through the door. Ha! I’m a lot of work!!). I got a few leads and am looking at bringing in some Heather Ross and Alexander Henry fabrics. These would be the fabric choices that people would have for the clothing. I want to keep this process as simple for people as possible. I spend a lot of time taking pictures of what I have at the moment and sending it to customers – very time consuming on both ends. If I do go and buy some cute Japanese fabrics or I see something that I totally love somewhere those fabrics will go into my clothing section that people can buy if they want additional clothing. I have no idea why I wrote all that – lol- I’m thinking about things a lot lately and I feel as though you are all with me on this journey.

It sounds like 2009 is going to be busier for you than 2008. I like the idea of the fabrics, anything to streamline your work has to be good!

    Happy New Year Christina!
I know how you feel about the fabric choices. I always do the same, take a ton of pictures and mail them to customers.

I think your ideas are wonderful! All those gorgeous pictures to take a long time…waiting for good light, uploading, editing as needed, emailing…lol…I know. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can not wait for my turn at a doll….Bear takes Gracon everywhere. He is quite loved. He is a must for bedtime. Paige celebrated the holiday with Emma…and even got new jammies to match hers.

And…I forgot to tell you the best part! Emma picked out one of Berrie’s moondrops from her collection and wrapped it up and put it under the tree for her little Paige….awww…so sweet, huh?

So nice to see another prince fan in the world of crafters! And to hear that he is still breathing, he is a little bit too quiet nowadays ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe you can make a Prince inspired Bamboletta Doll!?!?

I once went to a Prince concert and it was awesome!!
Sounds like you have lots of things going on, and so exciting. I’m sure it will be beautiful and succesfull too, you can do it!
I really like the Heather Ross and Alexander Henry fabrics, frustrating that I’ve never seen them here in the NL. Well, at least we have the awesome skinfabric from Witte Engel. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve been admiring your lovely dolls for a while now, but I just discovered your blog. I came pretty close to buying one as a Christmas gift for my kidlet, but then decided to make my own instead. I’m very pleased with my results, but its nothing like your beauties. She has a birthday in 6 months, and a little girl can’t have to many dolls, can she? Especially when her favourite thing is dinosaurs.
I think the new TV on the Radio is amazing, too. Its one of my absolute favourites from the last year. And I really dig Alexander Henry fabrics. I haven’t had a ton of Heather Ross, but what I’ve got, I treasure (and horde), and it feels just lovely.
Anyhoo, love the blog, and love your work! Thanks for being amazing. And I’m thrilled you’ll still be able to sell to the states.
